ASHLAND THEATRE
ABOUT
After nearly two years of renovation and a $2.1M Capital Campaign, the Ashland Theatre re-opened its doors in December 2018. As a historic film and performing arts venue, Ashland Theatre seeks to reinvent the classic American movie house experience through exceptional film and live music.
Operated by the Ashland Theatre Foundation, Ashland Theatre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, plush new seating, box seats, dressings rooms, and expanded concessions with a full Virginia ABC license.
HISTORY
Ashland Theatre first opened its doors on August 10, 1948. After Preservation Virginia added Ashland Theatre to the list of most endangered historic sites in Virginia, the Theatre’s owners donated the historic landmark to the Town of Ashland in 2013.
In 2014, a Downtown Ashland Association committee of passionate volunteers (who went on to become the founding members of the Ashland Theatre Foundation) began to operate the theatre as a “pop-up” in 2014. Their dedication led to an organized fundraising effort and successful capital campaign to renovate and re-open the Theatre.
Offering the best in first-run and classic film, as well as a stellar live music line-up in partnership with The Broadberry Entertainment Group, Ashland Theatre is a premiere entertainment venue.
