A powerful and engaging community event!

Local residents speak about their personal experiences in an oral history format. Followed by a keynote speaker and gospel choir performance.

Topics include race, community, segregation, and history in our local community during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. This year’s theme is “Education”.

Anthony Keirr moderates a panel of 6 residents before opening the floor to speaker Dr. John Kinney.

The program concluded with the Community Gospel Chorus under the direction of Tyler Spurlock.

The oral history program is ideal for adults and children of middle and high school age. Event is free and open to the public.

The event is organized by a partnership of Downtown Ashland Association, Ashland Museum, Hanover County Black Heritage Society, and Hanover Arts and Activities Center.

2023 marks the ninth annual Untold Stories program held in Ashland. DVD recordings of previous programs are available for purchase at Ashland Museum.
