Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale performs “John Rutter’s Magnificat and Elaine Hagenberg’s Illuminare”which has come to be one of the great choral works of the holiday season. The other work in the winter concert is Elaine Hagenberg’s Illuminare, a five-movement work for chorus and chamber orchestra exploring themes of darkness and light.
The Chorale is a fresh and visionary group of between 60 and 70 singers from the Central Virginia area led by Artistic Director Ryan Tibbets. The group’s repertoire is comprised of larger choral works with orchestra, such as Vivaldi’s Gloria, Masses of Mozart and Haydn, and other works of merit, including new works and anthems from choral traditions old and new.
Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale welcomes new members each season. The group creates outstanding performances of choral music through community participation, education and inspiration. It seeks to foster greater appreciation of the choral art and to enrich the communities of Central Virginia.
